What the public record can and cannot separate
Three Google Maps pulls returned 225 rated roofing contractors across this metro. That dataset answers one question well, answers a second question badly, and cannot answer the question most people ask it.
Before any table, the finding that made this page worth writing. Of the 225 rated roofing contractors in the pull, 122 sit at 4.9 stars or above and 78 carry a flawless 5.0, 40 of those on fewer than twenty reviews. Only 18 companies sit below 4.0. A variable that places more than half a market in a single bucket is not sorting the market. It is describing the fact that roofing customers who are asked to leave a review usually leave a good one.
So a page that ranked these companies one to forty on their star average would be presenting noise as a finding. This page does not do that. What it publishes instead is volume, which is a real and measurable difference between listings, clearly labelled as what it is.

The median company carries 31 reviews. The quartile boundaries are 11, 31 and 104. Twenty four listings out of 225 hold 53 per cent of every review in the set, and the top ten alone hold 34 per cent. Look at the last column: high star ratings are spread evenly across every band, including the band with almost no reviews in it. That is the whole argument of this page in one column of numbers.
If both of your quotes came from companies with large public files, the star ratings will not separate them and you should stop looking at them. If one came from a company with a thin file, that is not a red flag, it is an absence of evidence, and it means your own checks have to carry the whole load: certificate of insurance, written scope, workmanship warranty document, and a reference from a job in your own area.

What is true and checkable: roofing, gutters and downspouts across greater St. Louis, Atlas and Malarkey shingles, licensed and insured, no siding, no windows, no commercial work. This site publishes no star rating, no review count, no founding year and no warranty term for Keys, because an advertiser scoring itself in a table is exactly the practice this page exists to argue against.
- Source. Three Google Maps pulls run on 23 August 2026 covering St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Chesterfield, deduplicated on place identifier.
- Inclusion. A row is in the table only if its Google category is exactly Roofing contractor and it carries both a star average and a review count. Gutter cleaning services were excluded, because in this market that category is largely pressure washers and window cleaners and ranking them as roofers would be wrong.
- Sort. Descending by number of Google reviews. Not by quality, not by price, not by our opinion, and not by anything a company can buy from us.
- The featured advertiser is not in it. Keys Roofing is excluded from the table, from the distribution statistics and from the structured data behind this page.
- Nobody pays. No company in the table has been contacted, invoiced or offered placement, and none of them receive anything submitted through the form on this site.
- Known limits. A Maps pull is a snapshot of listings rather than a census of the trade. The city is where a business is registered, not where it works. Review volume tracks age and marketing spend at least as much as it tracks quality.

How to actually use this table
Use it as a context check, not a shortlist. If a company that quoted you appears here, you know there is a large body of public feedback to read, and reading it is worth an hour: sort by lowest first, ignore the extremes at both ends, and look for whether the same specific complaint recurs. A pattern of comments about crews leaving nails behind is information. A single furious review about a scheduling change is not.
If a company that quoted you does not appear here, that is normal. Most of the 225 companies in the pull are not in this table, and the metro contains plenty of small operations that do good work and have never asked a customer for a review. It simply means the public record is quiet and you have to make your own.
What this data cannot do
- It cannot tell you who does better work. Nothing in a star average measures flashing detail.
- It cannot tell you where a company actually works. A registered address in Fenton or St Peters covers jobs across the whole metro.
- It cannot tell you what you will be charged. There is no price data in it at all.
- It cannot tell you whether the crew on your roof will be employed by the company you hired. That is a question you ask.
- It cannot catch a company that has been trading under a different name for a year.
Which leaves the comparison where it started: in the documents on your table. Open the sheet.
If you want a written scope that lines up against the two you already have, that is a phone call. The measurement, the photographs and the written scope are yours to keep whether or not you hire anybody.
The table above cannot tell you who to hire
A star rating separates the disasters from everyone else and then stops being useful. What separates the rest of the field is the written scope and who is actually standing on the roof.
